The story

Levelling and kerbs

A layout starts as open land. The ground is levelled, the plots and roads are marked, and the kerb lines go down first, so every later layer has an edge to work to.

The road bed

Between the kerbs the road is built up in layers of crushed stone. Precast drain units run beside it, ready to be set and covered.

Footpaths and lights

Footpaths are laid in slabs or pavers, with pits left open for trees, and street lights go in along the edge.

Asphalt

The asphalt is laid by a paver and rolled, and the kerbs are painted. What is left is a road a buyer can drive along to their own plot.
